PREP Program Curriculum:

Check our Price List for current tuition fees. Each student will have four classes per day, which include:

  • Masterclass: A semi-private lesson where the student has one on one instruction from a teacher while other students observe. This class is limited to four students of the same instrument and level. Students must choose one polished, memorized piece from the Suzuki repertoire with the help of your home teacher.

  • Repertoire Class: A single instrument group class where students go through Suzuki pieces together. The focus is on learning how to play pieces together as an ensemble. Please visit our Repertoire List for this year’s selection of required pieces.

  • Chamber Music: Automatically assigned to students 10 years and older. Students under the age of 10 are not guaranteed a Chamber Music Group and may be assigned two electives instead.

  • One Elective Course: Students will rank their preferred elective on the registration form when they register.

Students also have the opportunity to participate in the following:

  • Monday Play-in

  • Performance in Finale Concert on Friday

  • A scheduled hour for practice outdoors.

  • Attendance at various concerts and recitals, such as the Faculty Recital, Guest Artist Recital, Honors Recital, Informal Recitals, and Fun Night.

PREP Elective Courses

All PREP students will be placed in two electives. Students 10 years and older will automatically be assigned to a Chamber Music Group (such as a trio or quartet) and one elective of their choice.

Students under the age of 10 are not guaranteed a Chamber Music Group assignment unless there are enough students of the same age and level. If your child is under the age of 10 and you wish you be assigned Chamber Music Group we highly recommend making a note in your registration. If there are not enough students your child’s age we will assign them another elective instead of chamber music.

Chamber Music Group Details

  • All students eligible for chamber music must submit a placement video by April 15th.

  • All students will receive sheet music for their group by May 15th.

  • Each child’s part is critical. Chamber part assignment are final decisions and cannot be changed.

  • Violinists who would like to play the viola in their chamber groups, e-mail your request to the director.

PREP Frequently asked questions

My child is 9 years old - can they take chamber music? String students that are 10 years and older are automatically assigned a chamber music group. For students under 10 we recommend listing Chamber Music as your first enrichment course choice. We group students of similar ages, so if there are age and level appropriate students a chamber group may be assigned to your child. If not, we will defer to your 2nd and 3rd choices for enrichment.

What’s the age range to attend LASI?
LASI is designed for children ages 4-18

Can my child attend without an adult?
Children 12 years and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. Students 13 years and older may attend without a parent/guardian but must be boarding in the Teen Dorm to be supervised by the teen dorm monitor.

What should my child prepare for LASI?
Review the entire Suzuki repertoire up to his or her current playing level and should prepare a polished, memorized piece as a solo for their masterclass teacher.  It is recommended to pick an old piece that the student knows really well.
